The Best Ways to Keep Fighting During the Misery of Detox

During the misery of detox, you need all of the determination you can muster so you don’t give up and go back to using drugs or drinking. It can be hard to find any determination when you are in that weak of a position, but if you find it, you can then keep pushing through until you get past that mountain. If you are about to go into a rehab situation, or you are already there and fighting to stay there, here are a few things that can help give you the inspiration, motivation, and determination to keep pushing, no matter how much you happen to be struggling in that moment.

Surviving During the Misery of Detox

First, you need to look at your situation. You need to see that you are making your life better by being in detox and rehab. You need to realize that if you were to leave the situation you are in now, you may not have that opportunity again. Right now, you have the opportunity to stop the negative influence in your life, and get your life going the direction you want it to go without that influence.

Next, you need to figure out which methods of reducing pain are going to be the most effective for you. There are many different ways of reducing the discomfort during the misery of detox, including:

  • Massages
  • Acupuncture
  • Swimming
  • Relaxing in a hot tub
  • Sweating it out in a sauna
  • Going for a walk
  • Get distracted with music, movies, TV shows, or reading a good book
  • Exercising, if your doctor says it’s safe
  • Talking with others
  • Taking medications prescribed by the doctor

You have options, but you have to be willing to speak up about what you need. Most of the time, those helping you during the misery of detox are going to start off with the most basic options first, and go up from there. If they find that a massage works, they will want you to have that done when you get uncomfortable instead of going directly to medication.

Knowing that you are worth the time and effort to get the help you need is another way to help you fight when detox gets the better of you. If you weren’t worth the time or effort, people would not be by your side, offering their time and expertise, so if they are not willing to give up on you, you shouldn’t be willing to give up on you either!
