The abundance of foods in rehab are going to leave you wondering which foods are best for you. There needs to be a balance. Just because you have access to a wide variety of food does not mean that you need to focus on only eating some of it, or just on one type. You need to make sure you are giving your body food from each macronutrient level in order to boost your body’s ability to heal, and get back on the right track to good nutrition.
Finding Macronutrient Rich Foods in Rehab
You need foods from each of the five groups of macronutrients. If you are getting a good amount of each of these each day, then your body is going to be better able to heal than if you are missing one group of these foods.
1-Fiber: you need fiber to help scrape up the inside of your body, in a good way, to help rid it of the built up toxins that are left over from your drug addiction. It also helps regulate your digestion, allows you to stay fuller, longer, and it can lower your cholesterol.
2-Water: you need to keep drinking at least 8 glasses each and every day, whether you are in rehab or not. This is going to be the same no matter where you go, for the rest of your life. Keep in mind that some of the foods in rehab are going to help with your water total at the end of the day, too.
3-Carbs: you need to have carbs to give your body the energy it needs on a cellular level to repair itself, rebuild broken parts, and get past as much of the damage you did to it while using drugs as possible. Stick with the top-end carbs whenever possible, such as quinoa.
4-Protein: protein is what your body uses to repair itself on a cellular level. While carbs give it the energy to work on corrections and healing, the protein is the pieces that your body uses to fill in the broken parts or gaps left after your addiction.
5-Fats: you need a certain amount of fat to help cushion the different parts of your body, and to protect your body from increased damage. You can’t go overboard with fatty foods in rehab, or you could cause more harm, but small amounts of natural fats are a good thing for you.
